I have learned to keep track of the days using my pill organizers. Today is Wednesday and exactly a week ago we arrived in this beautiful place. We are renting a cottage that overlooks Calabash bight. Our cottage sits up high amongst the trees. The wind blows off the water and through the open windows. The cooling breezes can be gusty at times but are a relief from the heat. I was concerned when I found out that we did not have air conditioning. Although Roatan's temperatures are not excessively hot the humidity is a bitch. Between the wind and the humidity I have not choice but to tie my hair into a pony tail. I still use make up when we go down Island to do our grocery shopping but that will probably not last long. I also have had opt out of wearing sun dresses to avoid a "Marilyn Monroe moment," especially when climbing on and off water taxis. Shorts, t-shirts and flip flops are the Gringo uniform. We were informed that we are still at tourist status because our clothes don't look worn enough to be permanent residents. Everyone presumes we have just stepped off a cruise ship. One day we will be Gringos here.
Today we took our rental car back and went to Eldon's which is the largest grocery store on the Island. You can get pretty much anything there that you get in the States except cottage cheese. I have searched for it on three different occasions and it is no where to be found. My husband would probably say that it is purposefully not imported because of how disgusting it is. I checked in the "whole food" Eldon's store that is located next door with no luck.
We also visited the stationary store because I have been searching for water color paper. I mention this because when I went to pay I realized that I needed to work on my Spanish. I had no idea what amount she said and just gave a big bill to cover it. Limpera is the currency that is used here and 500 hundred limps is approximately $20 dollars. Tonight I will fire up my duo lingo app and hope I learn some numbers.
